5.1 No Financial Advice
Capital Friends is NOT a financial advisor. We do not provide:
- Personalized investment recommendations
- Tax advice
- Legal advice regarding estate planning or asset distribution
- Specific guidance on which investments to buy or sell
The portfolio rebalancing suggestions are based solely on YOUR target allocations and current values. They are mathematical calculations, not professional financial advice.
You should consult qualified professionals (financial advisors, tax accountants, lawyers) for personalized advice.
5.2 No Warranty
Capital Friends is provided "AS-IS" and "AS-AVAILABLE" without any warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to:
- Merchantability: We don't guarantee it's fit for your particular purpose
- Accuracy: Formulas and calculations may contain errors
- Reliability: Features may break or stop working
- Security: No software is 100% secure
- Compatibility: May not work with all browsers or Google Workspace editions
⚠️ Critical Warning: Do NOT rely solely on Capital Friends for important financial decisions. Always verify calculations independently and consult professionals for major financial moves.
5.3 Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we (Jagadeesh Manne and Capital Friends) are NOT liable for:
- Financial Losses: Investment losses, tax penalties, missed opportunities
- Data Loss: If your Google Sheet is accidentally deleted or corrupted
- Calculation Errors: Incorrect formulas leading to wrong net worth figures
- Security Breaches: If someone gains unauthorized access to your copy
- Privacy Violations: If you share sensitive data inappropriately
- Compliance Issues: If using Capital Friends causes you to violate laws or regulations
- Reliance Damages: Losses from relying on the tool's output
- Third-Party Issues: Problems with Google's services (Drive, Sheets, Apps Script)
Maximum Liability: In any case, our total liability will not exceed $0 (zero dollars), as Capital Friends is a free service.
5.4 No Guarantees About Email Reminders
The security reminder email feature:
- May fail to send due to Gmail rate limits or errors
- May be marked as spam by email filters
- Is dependent on Google's Apps Script trigger reliability
- Runs under YOUR account, not ours (we can't troubleshoot delivery issues)
- Gmail Quota Limits: Consumer Gmail accounts are limited to 100 emails per day. If you exceed this (e.g., by sending bulk emails from other scripts), Capital Friends email reports will fail.
- Trigger Reliability: Time-based triggers may occasionally fail or be delayed by Google Apps Script's execution queues
- No Delivery Guarantee: We cannot guarantee emails will be delivered, arrive on time, or avoid spam filters
⚠️ Email Quota Warning: If you use automated email features heavily or have other Apps Scripts sending emails, you may hit Google's 100 emails/day limit for consumer accounts. Consider using Google Workspace (500 emails/day limit) for higher volumes.
6. User Conduct
You agree NOT to:
6.1 Prohibited Uses
- Abuse: Overwhelm our system by requesting hundreds of copies
- Reverse Engineering: (Actually, you CAN do this - it's open source! But don't use findings to harm others)
- Impersonation: Claim you created Capital Friends or remove attribution
- Malicious Modifications: Create a modified version that steals users' data
- Spam: Use the email feature to spam yourself or others
- Illegal Activity: Use Capital Friends to facilitate crimes (money laundering, fraud, etc.)
6.2 Acceptable Use Policy
Capital Friends is intended for:
- Personal family wealth tracking
- Portfolio management and rebalancing
- Organizing financial documents and information
- Tracking net worth over time
- Improving financial security practices
It is NOT intended for:
- Managing other people's money professionally (use proper portfolio management software)
- Tax evasion or hiding assets
- Storing passwords or authentication credentials (use a password manager)
- Tracking illegal assets or income
7. Third-Party Services
7.1 Google Workspace Dependency
Capital Friends relies entirely on Google's services:
- Google Sheets: For the spreadsheet functionality
- Google Drive: For storage
- Google Apps Script: For custom menus and automation
- Gmail: For sending email reminders (optional feature)
You acknowledge that:
- Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy also apply
- We have no control over Google's services or policies
- If Google changes or discontinues services, Capital Friends may stop working
- We're not responsible for Google outages or service disruptions
7.2 Data Sources
Capital Friends fetches public financial data using:
- IMPORTRANGE: Imports mutual fund NAV prices and stock data from public master databases (maintained by the developer)
- No direct external API calls: Your template does NOT make server-side calls to external websites - all data comes via IMPORTRANGE
- Client-side resources: HTML dialogs load JavaScript/CSS libraries (Tailwind CSS, Fuse.js, Google Fonts) directly in your browser - this is standard web functionality
Capital Friends does NOT use:
- Third-party analytics services
- External databases requiring authentication
7.3 Payment Processing (Razorpay)
Capital Friends is 100% free. However, we accept voluntary donations to help maintain the website required for Google verification.
How Donations Work
- Payment Processor: Donations are processed by Razorpay, a third-party payment gateway authorized by the Reserve Bank of India
- Voluntary: All donations are 100% optional - you can use Capital Friends fully without ever donating
- One-Time: Donations are one-time payments, not recurring subscriptions
- No Benefits: Donations do NOT unlock any premium features (there are none) - Capital Friends remains completely free for everyone
- Non-Refundable: All donations are final and non-refundable (except for genuine payment errors)
Razorpay's Terms Apply
When you make a donation:
- You agree to Razorpay's Terms of Service: https://razorpay.com/terms/
- Your payment data is handled by Razorpay according to their Privacy Policy: https://razorpay.com/privacy/
- We receive only minimal transaction information (transaction ID, amount, timestamp) - NOT your card details or banking credentials
- Razorpay is PCI DSS compliant and uses industry-standard security measures
Donation Policy & Refunds
For complete information about donations, cancellations, and refunds, see our Cancellation & Refunds Policy.
Summary:
- No Subscriptions: There is nothing to cancel - donations are one-time only
- No Refunds: Donations are non-refundable (except for payment errors like double charges)
- Contact for Issues: Email jagadeeshi.k.manne@gmail.com for genuine payment problems
8. Google Apps Script Limitations
Capital Friends runs on Google Apps Script, which is a cloud-based scripting platform provided by Google. This platform has inherent limitations that may affect your experience.
8.1 Execution Time Limits
6-Minute Script Timeout: Google Apps Script enforces a maximum execution time of 6 minutes per script run. This means:
- Complex operations (e.g., calculating portfolio values across hundreds of transactions) may timeout
- Custom menu functions that process large datasets may fail to complete
- Email report generation with extensive data may be interrupted
- You may see error messages like "Script timeout: exceeded maximum execution time"
Workaround: If you encounter timeouts, try reducing the amount of data processed at once or simplifying calculations.
8.2 Email Quotas
Google enforces strict daily email sending limits to prevent spam:
| Account Type |
Daily Email Limit |
Impact on Capital Friends |
| Consumer Gmail (free) |
100 emails/day |
Sufficient for daily/weekly reports to 3-5 family members. May fail if you send many emails from other sources. |
| Google Workspace (paid) |
500 emails/day (Business Starter) |
Handles large families and frequent reports comfortably. |
What Counts Toward Your Quota:
- Each email sent to each recipient counts as 1 email (e.g., sending to 5 family members = 5 emails)
- Emails sent by ALL your Apps Scripts count toward the same quota
- Manual emails sent from Gmail also count toward the quota
- The quota resets at midnight Pacific Time (PT)
⚠️ Quota Exceeded Error: If you hit the email limit, you'll see errors like "Service invoked too many times for one day: email." Email sending will resume automatically the next day. To avoid this, limit the number of recipients or reduce email frequency.
8.3 Spreadsheet API Quotas
Google Apps Script has read/write quotas for accessing Google Sheets:
- Read Requests: 20,000 calls per day (consumer), 100,000 calls per day (Workspace)
- Write Requests: 20,000 calls per day (consumer), 100,000 calls per day (Workspace)
- Simultaneous Executions: Maximum 30 concurrent script executions per user
When This Matters: These quotas are very high and unlikely to be reached with normal Capital Friends usage. However, if you:
- Run automated triggers very frequently (e.g., hourly updates)
- Have many other Apps Scripts running simultaneously
- Process extremely large datasets (10,000+ rows)
...you may encounter "Service invoked too many times" errors.
8.4 Trigger Limits
Google Apps Script limits the number of time-based triggers per script:
- Maximum Triggers: 20 time-based triggers per user per script
- Minimum Interval: Hourly (you cannot schedule triggers to run every minute)
- Trigger Reliability: Triggers may be delayed by up to 15 minutes during high Google Apps Script platform load
- Trigger Failures: If a trigger fails 10 times in a row, Google may automatically disable it
For Capital Friends: You'll only use 1-2 triggers (daily/weekly email reports), so this limit is not a concern for typical usage.
8.5 Apps Script Environment Limitations
Other technical limitations to be aware of:
- No External Libraries: Cannot use npm packages or external JavaScript libraries (only Google's built-in services)
- No Persistent State: Scripts cannot maintain state between executions (data must be stored in sheets)
- No Direct Database Access: Cannot connect to MySQL, PostgreSQL, or other databases directly
- Single-Threaded Execution: Scripts run sequentially, not in parallel (no multi-threading)
- Memory Limits: Large data operations may fail due to memory constraints
- Network Request Limits: Limited to 20,000 UrlFetch calls per day
8.6 No Control Over Platform Changes
Google may change Apps Script functionality at any time:
- Deprecated features may stop working without warning
- New restrictions or quotas may be introduced
- Google Sheets formulas may change behavior in updates
- Apps Script APIs may be sunset or replaced
We are not responsible if Google changes affect Capital Friends' functionality. As an open-source project, the community may adapt to changes, but there are no guarantees.
8.7 Authorization and Permissions
Capital Friends requires specific Google OAuth scopes to function. For detailed information, see our Privacy Policy (Section 8: OAuth Scopes).
Important Authorization Notes:
- First-Time Authorization: You'll be asked to authorize permissions when you first use menu features (e.g., "Add Family Member")
- Unverified App Warning: You may see "This app isn't verified" because Capital Friends is not reviewed by Google. This is normal for open-source scripts.
- Advanced Settings: Click "Advanced" → "Go to Capital Friends (unsafe)" to proceed. This is safe because the code runs in YOUR copy under YOUR account.
- Revocable Permissions: You can revoke permissions anytime from Google Account Settings → Security → Third-party apps with account access
9. Data & Privacy
For detailed information about data collection and privacy, see our Privacy Policy.
Summary

- All data is protected by YOUR Google account security (AES-256 at rest, TLS 1.2+ in transit)
